interview: modern legacy.

Kaity from Modern Legacy

Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
My name is Kaitlyn, I’m 25 and a born-and-bred Queensland girl. I have worked in a variety of roles in the fashion industry over the years, from e-commerce management to freelance journalism, and have gained varied and valuable industry experience in that time. My blog ‘modern legacy’ focuses on my personal style and aims to be both informative and inspirational (hopefully!) to others looking for style ideas or who simply just love fashion and street-style as I do.

How did you first get into fashion and blogging?
I decided to start my blog on a bit of a whim. I remember deciding over Christmas in 2010 that I would start my own fashion blog, and in January 2011 I just went ahead and did it. I figured I loved reading other fashion blogs and felt as though I could generate some interesting content of my own when it came to my personal style choices, so the idea was borne from there.
Although I have always had a great love for fashion, I never really took it seriously as a career option until I was about two-thirds of the way through my law/arts degree at university. My blog really was my creative outlet during that time and has afforded me so many opportunities and such valuable experience in the fashion industry that I would never have had without it.

Where are some of your favourite places to shop?
Whenever I get down to Sydney I just can’t go past The Intersection in Paddington. Bassike, Ellery, Zimmermann, Camilla and Marc – all the essentials are right there. Bassike especially is one of my all-time favourite brands, so whenever I can get to one of their flagship stores I always do a lot of damage. At home in Brisbane I tend to stick to David Jones in Queens Plaza, as well as Zimmermann, Witchery and Sass & Bide. Online it’s a free-for-all – I’ll shop anywhere and everywhere, searching for the best prices and items. Shopbop, Tuchuzy, Forward by Elyse Walker, Green With Envy and The Iconic are all favourites. Also Ebay is a great resource for my bargain-hunting ways – some of the things I wear the most have been second-hand goodies from there.

Which bloggers do you look up to and why?
The bloggers I look up to the most are those who create unique yet relatable content for their readers and who clearly have a unique voice and strong sense of self. As a blogger who strives to generate all my content from a very personal standpoint, I know the effort and unyielding devotion it takes to put original content out there, so it is those who do the same whom I admire the most. Fellow Aussie bloggers like Mandy of Oracle Fox, Sara of Harper & Harley and Jessie of We The People are so inspirational to me (and the nicest girls ever), while international bloggers like Ann Kim of Andy Heart, Camille Charriere of Camille Over the Rainbow, Sandra Hagelstam of 5 Inch and Up and the Creators of Desire girls like Mija and Anouk Yve are all favourites.

Ally from Substance wants to know: If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be?
Hermione Granger in Harry Potter. Not that it would be a walk in the park towards the end there, but I just have to know what their world would actually be like.

What should we ask the next interviewee?
If you could only wear one clothing brand for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? (A tough question, I know!)
